Build-a-Rain Barrel Workshops

Volunteering

Oak barrels, donated by Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery

Beautiful oak barrels, first used for aging whiskey or wine, now retired after taking part in Town Hall’s renowned barrel-aged beer program, find welcoming homes and a greener function: rain water collection.

The majority of my free time revolves around nature—gardening, biking, hiking, camping, and adventures with my beloved dog, Alice. My passion for the environment is evident in all aspects of my life. Since 2019, I have been volunteering with Freshwater as a Minnesota Water Steward for the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District. I spend time connecting with community members around ways each of us can (and should) do our part to keep our water clean. I have worked with hundreds of community members and volunteers to organize and host Build-a-Rain Barrel Workshops, through a generous partnership with Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery.

Lindsay, a workshop participant, finds a fun surprise when drilling into her barrel—beer! Yes, it was delicious and VERY strong.

Volunteers assist participants with drilling through the barrels.

Barrels awaiting their new homes!
